WASHINGTON, D.C. - In response to President-Elect Trump's nomination of Senator Dan Coats for Director of National Intelligence, Congressman Charlie Dent (PA-15) offered the following remarks:

"I respect the selection of Senator Dan Coats to serve as our next Director of National Intelligence (DNI). Senator Coats has proven to be a respected and pragmatic representative throughout his tenure in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate," Dent said. "As a previous United States Ambassador to Germany, Senator Coats understands the importance of engaging with our international allies and the value that institutions like NATO and our established intelligence partnerships hold to promote and maintain security and stability overseas and here at home.

"As a Member of the House and Chairman of the Congressional Study Group on Germany," Dent continued, "I have had very positive interactions and a constructive working relationship with Senator Coats. At a time when our adversaries are tempted to act brazenly and remain capable of striking at our citizens and interests from all corners of the world, it is imperative that we continue to provide our intelligence community with the full confidence and support that they deserve."

Dent concluded by saying, "The wealth of expertise that Senator Coats will bring through his firsthand appreciation for and interactions with fellow members of Congress, our intelligence agencies, and our allies makes him an encouraging nominee."
