On January 8th I joined eight of my fellow Representatives from Pennsylvania in sending a letter to President Obama expressing our disappointment in the nomination of Debo P. Adegbile to lead the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division (letter attached).
Today, the Senate appropriately voted to reject the President’s misguided nomination. It is insulting to the family of Officer Daniel Faulkner and to all police officers and their families that Mr. Adegbile was nominated in the first place.
Mr. Adegbile, 27 years after the fact, worked to commute the death sentence that Mumia Abu Jamal received for the cold-blooded murder of Philadelphia police officer Faulkner.
I want to applaud the Senate for the sound and sensible actions it took today.
