WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) issued the following statement after voting for S. 627, the Budget Control Act of 2011:

“With my support, the House has passed another bill to avoid a government default and prevent a downgrading of our nation’s AAA rating. The legislation includes real and immediate cuts to discretionary spending that exceed the increase in the federal debt ceiling, creates responsible caps on long term spending, and establishes a process to enact meaningful reforms that signal Congress is serious about changing the fiscal trajectory of the United States and addressing the troubling national deficit.

“In the absence of a tangible proposal from the Obama Administration, the U.S. Senate must now pass what has been approved by the House or advance its own legislation. Our nation is on the verge of severe economic disruption caused by an avoidable default and preventable downgrade. It’s nearly the 11th hour - time for a Congress to deliver.”
