(Washington, D.C.) Today the House passed the negotiated Omnibus Budget agreement by a vote of 316 to 113.

Representative Charlie Dent (PA-15) released the following statement regarding the passage of the Fiscal Year 2016 Consolidated Appropriations Act:

“Today Congress provided much needed stability for the American people by passing a budget agreement that funds the military and federal agencies through the end of September 2016. Americans have grown tired of the self-imposed cliffs and crises that have been manufactured by politicians who take an ‘all or nothing’ approach to governing, and this bipartisan bill offers certainty for the year ahead.

This bill relieves the fiscal chokehold that had been imposed on our military and provides the funds necessary to allow us to effectively fight and destroy ISIS and protect our communities here at home.

Also included in this omnibus bill is a provision that lifts the outdated ban on the export of American crude oil. This measure alone will result in the creation at least 300,000 new jobs – including an estimated more than 13,000 in Pennsylvania alone – and is projected to add $38 billion to our economy. This is an important victory for our economy that will allow U.S. businesses to compete within the global marketplace and support our allies by providing them with a secure and reliable energy source.

Additionally, the omnibus includes a provision to meet and care for the lingering health woes faced by victims and First Responders as a result of the 9/11 attacks. This provision will help a number of Pennsylvanian citizens who answered the call and worked at Ground Zero in the months after the Towers fell.

The bill also protects taxpayers from damaging Obamacare taxes, funds critical medical research programs, prevents the imposition of retaliatory tariffs against U.S. goods, and stops the Administration from advancing its efforts to transfer Guantanamo Bay detainees to American soil.

I am pleased that Congress could come together in such an overwhelming manner to pass this bill and provide positive benefits and certainty for American families, military personnel, veterans, farmers and job creators.”
