(Washington, DC) – Representative Charlie Dent (PA-15) released a statement regarding the strong bipartisan vote to pass H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act:

“This is a great example of both parties in the House working together to do something beneficial for American workers and for our allies overseas. Today’s measure passed by a vote of 277 to 131. Forty-one Democrats agreed that the permitting process used to license the export of Liquid Natural Gas is broken and needed to be fixed. The action we took today puts in place a rational permitting process that deals with the current reality of the availability of natural gas. It also sets a reasonable time period for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review. Today’s action has the potential to expand the number of jobs available in the Energy Sector from 1.7 million currently to as many 3 million by 2020.

This bill also gives the United States the capability to help our European allies meet their energy needs. Currently, Europe depends heavily on Putin’s Russia to heat their homes in winter and to run their industries. Freeing them from that dependence can only help our future diplomatic efforts.

I’m glad to see the House unite behind a good bill in a bipartisan fashion. The Senate should take this bill up, pass it and the President should sign it.
