“I share our nation’s grief at the terrible destruction and loss of life caused by a massive earthquake in Haiti.
“I have heard from constituents who have friends and family in Haiti and are greatly concerned about their well-being. My staff has helped some of these individuals contact the U.S. Embassy in Port-Au-Prince and an assistance task force in Washington. As difficult as it may be at this time, we must be patient awaiting news due to the devastation to the nation’s physical and communications infrastructure.
“The need for humanitarian assistance will be great, and one thing I’ve always observed is the tremendous generosity and willingness of the American people to help those affected by tragedy. Constituents who want to find out how they can lend a hand should contact my office, and we will do our best to provide contact information for legitimate aid organizations when available.
“Anyone who would like current information on the situation can find the most up to date information regarding assistance to American citizens in Haiti at: http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1134.html.”
