United States Representative Charlie Dent (PA-15) commented today on House passage of H.R. 10, the Success and Opportunity through Quality Charter Schools Act, by a hugely bipartisan vote of 360 to 45. The bill consolidates two existing programs while authorizing $300 million per year to provide grants for opening new charter schools or to expand or emulate existing high-quality charter schools.
“I have been a long-time supporter of Charter Schools. They offer quality educational opportunities to children who may find themselves falling by the wayside in traditional public schools. Over 1,000,000 students across the United States are on waiting lists to gain admission to one charter school or another. Proving again this week that the House can come together and act sensibly to meet the needs of American families, H.R. 10 passed in a gratifyingly bipartisan manner. I hope the Senate now speedily takes up the work and gets this legislation to the President for his signature. Charter schools are an important component of the American educational system and today the House took significant action to recognize that fact and to help America’s parents who are doing their best to get their children a great education.”
