Congressman Dent was encouraged by the strongly bipartisan vote in the House today to pass the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014. His statement:
Today’s vote in the House represents an important step in providing stability, predictability and certainty to our budget and appropriations process. This in turn is good for the economy and creates a better climate for investment and job creation.
This bipartisan measure, that funds the government for the remainder of the fiscal year, reduces discretionary spending for the fourth year in a row and funds the government at levels below when President Obama first took office.
Importantly, this bill ends the cycle of governing by temporary spending bills called continuing resolutions (CR) which inefficiently allocate taxpayer dollars and cede Congress’ power of the purse authority to the President.
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I look forward to Congress returning a regular order appropriations process and working together to find solutions to the many challenges facing our nation.
