In anticipation of Hurricane Irene reaching our area this weekend, I felt it was important to provide you helpful resources to ensure you and your family remain safe during severe weather.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has been working hard to provide residents of the East Coast with reliable and frequent reports on the severity of Hurricane Irene, the storm’s potential path and its expected landfall. NWS has issued 4 advisories affecting the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including 2 that impact our area at this time: a Tropical Storm Warning for Montgomery County and a Flood Watch for Berks, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton Counties. To remain informed of changing weather conditions throughout the weekend, please consider registering for Email Updates from NWS.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been working to make certain Americans who may be impacted by Hurricane Irene are prepared. FEMA’s Ready.gov website features a section devoted to Hurricane Preparedness that includes helpful tips on creating a Family Emergency Plan and protecting your property or business. Additionally, Ready.gov has helpful information on Flood Preparedness, which is often a critical concern in our area during significant rain events.
As always, in the case of an emergency, please contact your local first responders.
